Plant-based Omega-3 in AIMega
Flaxseed oil provides one of the richest sources of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), the parent molecule of omega-3 essential fatty acids.
People cannot synthesize this plant-based omega-3 because they lack the necessary enzymes. Therefore, it is an essential nutrient and must come from the diet.
Food sources include walnuts, tofu, and flaxseeds.
It makes sense to supplement with the organic flaxseed oil in AIMega, because most people do not get enough of this essential fatty acid through food alone.
One of the many reasons ALA is essential is that it is a major structural component of cell membranes , helping maintain their flexibility, fluidity, and permeability, as well as supporting enzymes active in and around the cell membrane.
Among its many health benefits, ALA has also been shown to be effective in the prevention of cardiovascular disease .
Note: Alpha-linolenic acid is one of two essential fatty acids provided by AIMega®, which also contains plant-based omega-6 linoleic acid (LA) from organic flaxseed, sesame, and sunflower seed oils, along with olive oil.
