J.R. Celski - The Road to Recovery and The Olympics

The road to recovery for AIM-sponsored speedskater J.R. Celski has been marked with extraordinary healing and unbeatable nutrition from The AIM Companies. For that reason, being full-speed seems like a very real possibility at the 2010 Winter Olympics.

J.R. qualified for the Olympics in a dramatic Olympic Trials meet at Marquette, Michigan, in September. The nineteen year-old speedskating superstar experienced both the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.

During the competition, J.R. took first in the 1,500-meter race and finished second in the overall standings.

However, on the final day of competition, J.R. took a nasty spill and suffered a serious injury that ended his run at the Olympic Trials and put in jeopardy his Olympics status.

After surgery for a deep cut on his left leg, J.R. spent several months recovering and recuperating at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. His regimen included physical therapy as well as an increased amount of AIM nutrition.

"He's ahead of schedule and doing super well," says Sue Celski, AIM Member and the proud mom of J.R. Celski.

"He is very anxious, as you can imagine. However, we all know we need to get this right, since this is our only chance to do so. His healing is going great, and his outlook - like ours - is totally positive."

The circumstances are remarkable surrounding J.R.'s injury. The type of injury has the potential to end his skating career. When he crashed, his skate sliced into his leg and had the cut been an inch or two in a different direction, it could have done irreparable damage to the leg.

J.R.'s location on the track and the efficiency of the medical team helped get J.R. out of the rink and over to the hospital as quickly as possible.

Dr. Larry Lewis performed emergency surgery that evening and consulting and overseeing J.R.'s recovery is Dr. Eric Heiden, himself an Olympic speedskater (long track) and the winner of five Olympic gold medals in the 1980 Olympic games. Dr. Heiden called J.R.’s injury simply a "speed bump on the road to the Olympics."

Since the injury, J.R. has been quickly improving. Doctors did not expect J.R. to be able to bend his leg at a 90-degree angle until six weeks after surgery. It took J.R. just thirty-one days. He bent the knee to 115 degrees soon after and he continues to improve leading up to the February Olympics.

A big part of the recovery for J.R. has been regular supplementation with AIM products. His product regimen is lengthy and includes the following: AIMega, BarleyLife Xtra, Herbal Fiberblend, PrepZymes, Just Carrots, LeafGreens, Peak Endurance, CalciAIM, RediBeets, Cellsparc 360 and Proancynol 2000.

J.R. has recently added ProPeas, the new vegetable protein powder from The AIM Companies. Together, the AIM products and a determined effort by J.R. have him on the right road to recovery.

In the Winter Olympics, J.R. is expected to compete in the 1,500-meter individual race as well as the 3,000-meter team relay. With the experience of the past year under his belt and his stellar performances in the World Cup racing season, J.R. will be considered by many as a favorite to win a medal at the Vancouver Olympics.

Be sure to cheer on J.R. Celski as he prepares for the opportunity of a lifetime.

The Celski family would like to thank all members of the AIM family for the support, encouragement and prayers you have extended to J.R. Celski.

P.S. J.R. Celski, powered by 'Nutrition That Works',  led Team USA to the silver medal in the 5,000-meter relay at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Celski is now a three-time Olympic medal winner, having also won two bronze medals in 2010 during his Olympic debut in Vancouver.

The AIM Companies is proud to have sponsored J.R. Celski for over a decade and to have seen him through his greatest trials and triumphs.

He credits AIM nutrition as one of the keys to his outstanding performance, helping him to success in short-track speedskating: world records, world championships and now a silver medal in the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Looking ahead to the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea, Celski should get another opportunity at medaling in the individual speed skating events.
