Can Cocoa Help Lower Type 2 Diabetes?

For those with diabetes, the mere thought of chocolate can send their blood sugar soaring.

But a new study published in the Journal of Nutrition found incorporating flavanol-rich cocoa into a healthy diet can significantly lower the incidence of type 2 diabetes.

Spanning over eleven years, the study included 2,915 men and women who were examined every three to four years.

During the third, fourth and fifth examinations, participants were asked to report their frequency of consumption of food items during the past year that contained specific amounts of flavonoids.

The study concluded that for every 2.5 increase in dietary flavanols such as chocolate, tea and berries, there was a 26 percent lower incidence of type 2 diabetes.

The findings of this study show that flavanol-rich cocoa, as found in dark chocolate, can have significant health benefits.

Three different types of cocoa can be found in Cocoa Leaf Greens.
