The New and Improved BarleyLife

As the new and improved BarleyLife arrives in orders, you may notice some key improvements to the flagship product of The AIM Companies.

For answers to some common questions related to the new BarleyLife, see the following statements from the Quality Assurance team:

What Are The Key Benefits of Improved BarleyLife?

There are several benefits to the improved BarleyLife:

  • Increases in many nutrients including chlorophyll, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, folic acid, and chromium. Overall, this translates into a 25 percent greater nutrient content per serving, and a 56 percent greater nutrient content gram for gram.
  • Increased antioxidant content. ORAC and SORAC testing confirm the increased antioxidant potential of improved BarleyLife.
  • Benefits of brown rice. Brown rice oligodextrin contains naturally occurring beneficial nutrients.
  • Reduced cost per serving. The cost per serving is now lower. See information below about our new 360 gram canister.

Where Does AIM Now Grow BarleyLife?

BarleyLife is now grown in the United States. In forty years of growing, processing, and distributing young barley grass, AIM has shared a great deal of information with our Members.

Unfortunately, we have had processing information stolen and then used to create competitor products. We will no longer be sharing proprietary information, such as exact growing locations and process equipment.

This is to protect The AIM Companies and AIM Members, to ensure that AIM always has the best green product on the market.

Why Is BarleyLife Now Grown and Manufactured in the United States?

For two very important reasons: to improve the quality and to manage costs.

Growing and manufacturing BarleyLife in the U.S. has resulted in several benefits, including a longer growing season, improved nutritional profile and improved process and ingredients.

This has resulted in the best powdered barley juice ever offered by The AIM Companies.

Secondly, because growing and manufacturing BarleyLife in the U.S. costs less, we were able to keep costs under control.

With the majority of AIM's market in the United States, growing and manufacturing BarleyLife in the U.S. reduces transportation costs.

In addition, it reduces administrative costs, taxes, and duties associated with shipping product from Canada.

Is Improved BarleyLife as Nutritionally Dense as Before?

On average, the nutritional content is 25 percent higher when comparing 5 grams of the previous powder to 4 grams of the improved powder.

If we compare the improved BarleyLife to the old on an equal weight basis, the average nutrient content is 56 percent greater.

Chlorophyll, ORAC, and SORAC Test Results

Comparing previous BarleyLife with improved BarleyLife:

  • Chlorophyll increased from 15 to 19 mg per serving, a 26.7 percent increase.
  • ORAC increased from 495 to 916 Umole TE per serving, an 85.1 percent increase.
  • SORAC for improved BarleyLife tested in at 972 Umole TE per serving.

Note: SORAC stands for SuperOxide Radical Scavenging Capacity. It measures the antioxidant capacity of foods against the superoxide anion. This new test is an improvement on ORAC testing.

Why Is The AIM Companies Introducing a New Canister Size?

In 2011, The AIM Companies surveyed AIM Members to see if they would be interested in purchasing BarleyLife in a larger canister.

The answer was a resounding, "Yes."

- 78 percent of Members surveyed said they were interested.

The result is AIM's new 360 gram (12.70 oz) "Family Size" BarleyLife, with 90 servings per canister.

Is The AIM Companies Increasing The Price of BarleyLife?

Actually, it's the opposite.

Did you know that our new 12.7 oz (360 gram) "Family Size" BarleyLife is only 50 cents per serving, the lowest price per serving in the history of The AIM Companies?

In 1990, Barley Green™ 7 oz (200 gram) contained 40 servings for $25, which was 63 cents per serving. (You had to buy a six-pack to get that price.)

If you factor inflation over the past twenty-one years, Members were paying the equivalent of $1.09 per serving in 1990. (63 cents in 1990 had the same buying power as $1.09 in 2011. Annual inflation over the period 1990-2011 was 2.67 percent.)

In addition to the savings, improved BarleyLife is the most nutritious powdered barley grass ever offered by AIM.

Benefits of the 360 gram Family Size

The new family size canister has over 40 percent more BarleyLife, compared to the 256 gram (9.03 oz) canister, at a lower cost per gram and per serving.

U.S. Family Size Facts:
  • Member price $45
  • Number of servings 90
  • Cost per serving: .50 U.S. savings: over 3 cents savings per serving, compared to the 256 gram container - a total savings of $2.81
  • 65 percent higher BVP

Canada Family Size Facts:
  • Member price $46

  • Number of servings 90

  • Cost per serving: .51 Canada savings: over 5 cents savings per serving, compared to the 256 gram container - a total savings of $4.63

  • 3.62 percent higher BVP

Why is The AIM Companies Introducing a Smaller Canister of BarleyLife?

In conjunction with offering a family size canister, AIM realized the need for a smaller canister, both for convenience and for introducing the product to new users.

The new 180 gram (6.35 oz) canister is the same size as the RediBeets canister and contains half as many servings (45) as the new family size.

Benefits of The 180 gram Introductory Size:

  • Convenience: The smaller size makes it ideal for travel. Plus, it features a fixed inner seal that will help prevent container leakage.
  • Price: The low price makes it ideal for introducing BarleyLife to new users. The Member price is $25 US/$26 CA.

Will The AIM Companies Continue to Offer BarleyLife in a 256 gram Canister?

It will be available for a short time, during the transition to the 360 gram and 180 gram canisters.

Has AIM Recently Changed The Serving Size?

With the introduction of improved BarleyLife in 2011, the serving weight changed to 4 grams.

The serving volume is now being reduced from two level teaspoons to one rounded teaspoon, due to the increased powder density.

This results from recent improvements to our cool-processing method.

With these recent improvements, the fill levels will now be more consistent.

Note: BarleyLife has always been sold by weight and not by volume.

I have a client who recently received the new BarleyLife. She wrote to ask me if the "taste variance" happens very often, that it definitely tastes different. I'm wondering, is anything different with the manufacturing or crop?

Thank you for your question. Yes, there can be a taste and color differences from crop to crop.

As with any natural product, there are changes with the season and growing conditions.

The fall crop recently started going out to Members. This crop is slightly more olive green and the taste is a bit stronger.

This may be the reason for the taste or color difference that was noticed.

Nutritionally, it is exceptional and meets our stringent standards for purity, safety, and nutrient content.

What Is The Best Way to Mix BarleyLife to Minimize Clumps?

The best way to mix BarleyLife is to first add the powder to AIM's new blender bottle or shaker cup, then add water or juice and shake vigorously.

This will result in a foamy head that's about 1½ inches (4 cm) tall or about twice as high as it used to be.

If you look closely at this foam you'll notice little or no green specs in it. This coupled with virtually no green sludge at the bottom of your empty glass ensures that our powder is more soluble than ever.

The worst way to mix BarleyLife is water first, then powder, then stirring it with a spoon. It is very important to use a blender bottle, shaker cup, or mini hand blender, to get the best mixing and tasting BarleyLife.
