How Many Steps a Day to Maintain Your Weight?

"Everywhere's in walking distance, if you have the time." - Steven Wright

It's spring time, the weather is nice and more people are getting outside. For exercise, one of the things my wife and I like to do is walk.

Researchers at Science Daily investigated how many steps per day people should walk in order to maintain their weight.

They found that women and men between the ages of 18 to 40 require an average of 12,000 steps a day for weight control.

One mile is equal to 2,000 steps. So 12,000 steps is approximately six miles.

Everyone is different, so focusing all of your efforts on this target goal may not make sense for everyone.

Besides, some people prefer other forms of exercise such as riding bicycles, strength training or swimming. The key is to pick some form of exercise and try do it every day.

I wonder if running around behind our two year-old son also counts as exercise?
