14 Benefits of Exercise

Many studies over the past several decades have shown us the health value of exercise.

Exercise protects us from heart disease, stroke, diabetes, brittle bones, cancer and other degenerative diseases. It is a vital key to a longer and healthier life.

The following is a list of fourteen benefits of regular exercise:

  • Improves mental attitude
  • Improves physical appearance
  • Enhances efficiency of heart and lungs
  • Increases blood flow and oxygen volume
  • Increases muscle strength and endurance
  • Improves flexibility
  • Protects from lower back pain
  • Delays the aging process
  • Reduces body fat
  • Assists in weight control
  • Protects against heart disease
  • Cleanses the cells of toxins
  • Lowers bad cholesterol
  • Increases energy level

Researchers have found those who exercised about 30 minutes a day, trimming their weight by 5 percent to 7 percent, dropping ten to fifteen pounds, reduced their risk of developing diabetes by 58 percent.

Another study tracked 16,000 men and women for sixteen years. It found that those who took a brisk thirty minute walk six times a month appeared to cut the risk of premature death by 44 percent.

Even occasional exercisers - those who did less than the equivalent of six brisk walks a month - were 35 percent less likely to die prematurely than those who were sedentary.
