Warning: May Cause Death

The other day I was in the kitchen. The television was on in the living room.

I overheard a pharmaceutical commercial being aired. I didn't hear the entire thing and don't know what drug was being advertised.

But at the end, when the mandatory side-effects were being disclosed, this certainly caught my attention:

"May cause death."

 
I thought to myself, "With a side-effect like that, why bother?"

And have you noticed they no longer say, "Ask your doctor." 

Instead they say, "Get it from your provider."

Have many physicians been reduced to the mere role of drug dispenser? 

Are hospitals and clinics simply storefronts?
