The Average Distance Our Food Travels

What is the average distance our food travels from farm to plate?

In North America, it's 1,500 miles.

At $3.00 a gallon for diesel fuel, can we really afford for our food to be grown in distant central locations and trucked to the consumer half way across the country?

And by the time it arrives at its destination, how much nutrition is left?
