Eat, Drink and Be Merry...

You've heard the saying, "Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die."

It's the lucky ones who die instantly.

For the last eight years of his life, my dad was hooked up to an oxygen machine, due to severe emphysema - even though he had quit smoking twenty years ago.

He was disabled and unable to work. He could not play with his grandchildren. He was unhealthy and unhappy in what should have been his golden years.

No one is immune to the Laws of Health. If you don't consistently eat right, exercise, and take care of your body, eventually the law of Cause and Effect comes into play.

My father did not take care of himself when he was younger. Like I said, at one time he smoked. He also liked to drink several times a week. He pretty much ate whatever he wanted to eat, never exercised and parked it in front of the television on the evenings and weekends.

You can abuse your body and get away with it when you're younger. But eventually, it catches up with you.

After being placed on an oxygen machine, his body gradually deteriorated. He had a heart attack, became borderline diabetic and had prostate as well as pancreatic cancer. He was in pain on a daily basis. He struggled to do many of the things that we take for granted, like walking up the stairs, taking a bath or using the bathroom.

After seeing what happened to my dad, I decided I didn't want to end up like that. I'd rather pay the price for good health now, than to pay the unforgiving price of poor health later - when I'm old and it's too late.

There's no such thing as a quick fix or magic wand for good health. It's about priorities, getting educated and then making smart choices.

Yes, everyone will die eventually. However, the way you look and how you feel the last twenty to fifty years of life depends on your lifestyle and the nutrition you consume throughout your entire life.
