Have You Ever Noticed This in Old Movies?

Dirty Harry movie still

Have you ever watched an old movie and noticed how different people looked?

Not perfect.

Not fitness influencers.

Just... leaner.

Dr. Michael Eades once pointed this out after watching Dirty Harry.

He mentioned Woodstock too.

Old television shows.

Once you notice it, it's hard to unsee.

So what changed?

That's a question a lot of people have wondered about.

One thing that changed dramatically was the oils people started eating.

Today, seed oils are everywhere.

Soybean oil.

Corn oil.

Canola oil.

Sunflower oil.

Safflower oil.

They're used in restaurant food, chips, dressings, frozen meals, processed snacks, and fast food.

Some researchers believe these heavily processed oils may play a role in inflammation, appetite regulation, metabolism, and weight gain.

Others believe the larger issue is ultra-processed food overall.

Too much packaged food.

Too much sugar.

Too much eating disconnected from real food.

Either way, more people are paying attention to ingredient labels than they used to.

Interestingly, vegetable oils usually aren't made from vegetables.

They're made from seeds.

That's why many people now call them seed oils.

This doesn't mean every health problem comes from seed oils.

Nutrition is complicated.

But it does raise an interesting question:

How far have we drifted from real food?

Dr. Eades wrote:

"All you need to do to realize how much obesity there is out there is take a look at an old movie or an old TV show."

He may have had a point.
