We Expected a Tough Week… But Didn’t Get One

On Valentine’s Day in 2011, our son Brady had surgery.

Part of his adenoids were removed.

Tubes were placed in his ears because of fluid buildup.

The doctors prepared us for a rough recovery.

Soreness.

Swelling.

Fever.

Nosebleeds.

Bad breath.

They told us it could take about a week before things felt normal again.

So naturally, we braced ourselves.

But things didn’t unfold the way we expected.

In the recovery room, Brady kept saying he wanted to go home.

He didn’t ask for pain medication.

When we got home, he acted like nothing had happened.

He played.

Ran around.

Didn’t complain.

We kept waiting for the difficult part.

It never really came.

The next day, Brady wanted to go back to school.

We hesitated.

The doctor told us it was okay.

Later, the school nurse said she had never seen a recovery quite like that before.

That definitely got our attention.

Around that time, Brady had already been taking BarleyLife Xtra regularly.

We can’t say exactly why his recovery went the way it did.

But the experience made us think more seriously about nutrition.

His recovery simply wasn’t what we expected.

And sometimes those moments stay with you.
