When I was in college, after months of chemotherapy and hospice care, my grandfather died of cancer.

A few years later, my father also died of cancer. He spent the last eight years of his life dependent on an oxygen machine just to breathe.

Watching that kind of decline stays with you.

At some point, I made a quiet decision.

I do not want that ending.

I want to grow old with my wife.
I want to rebound the basketball for my son.
